Barry O’Dwyer is Group Chief Executive Officer of Royal London, the UK’s largest mutual life insurance, pensions and investment company. He was appointed to this position in September 2019. He is an actuary and has extensive experience in financial services, having started his career at Standard Life in 1988 when it was a mutual. He was Managing Director, Marketing of Standard Life when he left in 2007 to join HBOS. He moved to Prudential in 2009 and was Deputy Chief Executive of their UK & Europe business when he left in 2013 to return to Standard Life. In March 2017, he became Chief Executive Officer of their pensions and savings businesses and joined the Board of Standard Life plc. Following the merger with Aberdeen Asset Management, he became head of Standard Life Aberdeen’s UK business encompassing pensions and savings, platforms and asset management. He plays a prominent role in the industry and is a past President of the Association of British Insurers. Barry is a non-executive director of Coop Exchange, a fintech business which aims to help mutuals and cooperatives to raise capital to fund their future growth.
