National Co+op Grocers

C.E. Pugh is CEO for National Co+op Grocers (NCG), the purchasing and business services cooperative for retail grocery cooperatives located throughout the United States. NCG’s 165 member co-ops operate more than 240 storefronts in 39 states with combined annual sales of $3 billion.

Pugh joined NCG in 2008 to spearhead the NCG Development Co+operative, a subsidiary focused on supporting food co-op development and expansion. In 2012, he became NCG’s first Chief Operating Officer. Pugh was named CEO in February 2019.

Pugh has in the retail food industry for 50 years. He views improving the food system as a spiritual endeavor and believes food co-ops will continue to lead in creating more just and sustainable local food economies.
