Dr Francisco Ivorra holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia
(1973) and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the General Hospital of Alicante, specialising in Rheumatology and Rehabilitation.
He joined the Asisa-Lavinia cooperative in 1978 as the provincial representative for Alicante. In 1981 he was elected to the board of directors and led the National Sales Department. He became CEO in 1998, vice-president in 2001, and has served as president of both the cooperative and the ASISA Group since 2003.
Under his leadership, the ASISA Group has undergone significant restructuring to strengthen its position in the health insurance sector, expanding both its customer base and premium volume. He has driven diversification in the product portfolio, strengthened the commercial network, and introduced new sales channels. Additionally, he has overseen the expansion and modernisation of healthcare facilities, the growth of the dental division, the group’s comprehensive digital transformation, international expansion, and a strong commitment to sustainability.
From 2006 to 2011, Dr Ivorra served as president of the Fundación Espriu, where he currently holds the position of vice-president. The foundation brings together the ASISA Group and Assistència Sanitària Group to continue the work of Dr Josep Espriu, the founder of both organisations, and to promote healthcare cooperatives worldwide.
The ASISA Group operates a healthcare model based on the free choice of doctors by the
patients and professional-led business management, eliminating intermediaries through the
cooperative model. Owned by the Lavinia cooperative—comprising 8,500 doctors—the ASISA Group reinvests its annual profits into improving healthcare services. Its cooperative structure fosters direct relationships with insured individuals, ensuring high-quality patient care. ASISA company is primarily a health insurance provider but also offers multi-branch insurance products, including life, accident, funeral, pet, and sports cover.
The group reports an annual turnover of €1.76 billion, employs 6,200 people and serves 2.9
million policyholders. Its proprietary healthcare network, the HLA Hospital Group, includes 18 hospitals and 38 medical centres.
