Kemal Ataman

Koopbank

Born in 1967, Kemal Ataman holds a BS degree from University of Kansas and a MS degree from University of Southern California, both in electrical engineering. He subsequently earned a master's degree in business administration from Near East University in Cyprus.

Beginning his career at Koopbank as a software specialist in 1992, Mr. Ataman was appointed as the Head of IT Department in 1996. He was promoted to the position of Assistant General Manager responsible for digital banking and payment systems in 2011 and took part in important transformation programs of the bank. During his tenure at Koopbank, he has successfully implemented numerous projects aimed at enhancing the IT infrastructure and payment systems of cooperatives nationwide. He has also pioneered the integration of financial cooperatives into the country's banking system and clearing house, facilitating the provision of services such as ATMs, debit/credit cards and electronic money transfer to their members. Appointed as Koopbank's 7th chief executive officer in 2016, Mr. Ataman also serves as the Vice President of North Cyprus Bankers Association and board member both at Cooperative Savings Deposit Insurance Fund and the state’s Savings Deposit Insurance and Financial Stability Fund.
